Prevent Your Business from Being a Laughing Stock
A comedy bar is a hotspot nowadays. Here, everyone can just lounge around while having a good laugh, grin, smirk, or a slight smile. Yes, comedy clubs equate to big profits. Before you get yourself overwhelmed by such beautiful thoughts, there are a number of business tips you have to consider first.
A comedy bar business might be one of the businesses that are easy to operate and maintain. First of all, the venue doesn’t have to be glamorous, though they should be cozy and comfortable enough for your expected number of guests. You can set them up in pubs, art centers, nightclubs, or, for very special events, theaters.
Menu items found in comedy bars are usually light, though you can have the occasional sizzling plate or anything that goes well with a beer or any type of liquor. Generally, what comes first is the quality of their comedy shows. There are numerous kinds of comic acts performed in these clubs: impersonation, magic, and ventriloquism, among others. The most famous is stand-up comedy. In a stand-up comedy, the performer, usually referred to as a stand-up comedian or comic, stands in front of the audience and performs his antics in front of his audience, with a microphone in hand. Or they can just simply talk informally to the customers using satires and exaggerated facial expressions.
Supplies and equipment to be used in comedy shows are not a major concern. All you have to have are the following:
§ a stage that is very visible to the audience (Many are using raised center stages. They are nice, but they aren't necessary.)
§ microphone stand
§ a PA system that can support one or two microphones and can play music
§ a microphone (a fixed mic is better than a radio mic)
§ theatrical lighting (a kind of lighting where only the stage is focused, and the rest of the room appears dark to the performer)
Yet the most vital component of every club is its roster of comedians. You should be careful in choosing them. Many lately settle for cheap laughs: ethnic discrimination or sex gags. These often offend the audience and may cause them not to patronize your club again. To get “clean” comics, you can check out different talent agencies, or you can hold your own auditions.
With the perfect mixture of ambiance, good food, and comedy, your business will never be a laughing stock. Instead, it will be long-lasting, just like happiness should be.
